July 2002 CLUB NEWSLETTER
(Newsletter photos provided by David Bierschank)

On June 8th two members were able to make it to El Reno for the 'Small Town Weekend' festivities and to cruise Route 66. Jim Erb and David Bierschank represented the club in their Scouts through the nasty weather that tried to put a damper on things. Another International truck shown below made the event.

The trip to Mt Scott on June 15 resulted in 24 individuals making the trip. There were five members who made it in their Scouts and five who drove other vehicles. It was great to have everyone show up regardless of their mode of transportation.

The group first drove through Medicine park a cobblestone resort town We stopped at the dam on fake Lawtonka and

took in the view, while some explored the nearby hill and some waded in the lake.

We then loaded up and went to Meers Restaurant for lunch where the fried green tomatoes and Meers burgers were good eatin'!

After satisfying our hunger we headed into Lawton to the Military Museum where we toured several buildings full of historical artifacts, walked weapons row and viewed tanks gunners and "Atomic Annie", Then it was off to the old port's military horse corral and a search for Geronimo's grave. After a few twists and turns we finally discovered the old Chief's grave but were told we couldn't get near it due to tribal customs and Indian ground being sacred.

When the group returned to Love's to refresh, it was nearly 4pm and some decided to check in at their hotel before the evening meal. Half of the group made the trek to Mt. Scott to take in the spectacular view and visit the wildlife refuge.

Those able to, met at the Riverside Cafe where we had our evening meal and conducted our business meeting on the patio by the water. Door prizes were awarded. Tim and Mae Dean Erb received T-shirts, Barbara Wiens and Justin Biggers received hats and Kenny Wiens received a canvas cable bag. In a separate drawing for the kids Beau Biggers won a dart football and Brandi Barwick won a NAPA football

Jack McClary reported that the club has permission to 4-wheel on the Canadian River. August 17-18 was selected for the outing, weather permitting. If there's a lot of rain just prior to the outing, it will have

to be postponed to allow the water level to lower. In the event of rain, the outing will be moved to the weekend immediately following. Members can camp on the property but camping will be primitive.

The evening was cut short by a storm that blew into the area and drenched us all! The next morning those who stayed over went to the Wildlife Refuge and up Mt. Scott.

The kids enjoyed seeing the buffalo and prairie dogs. The weather that blew in the night before made for a cool run up the mountain but the view was still spectacular!

Thanks to Jim Erb for stepping up and planning the weekend for the club.
